Tourism officials in the region are looking beyond their traditional
northern European and American clientele in light of the growing
economic boom in Asia, believing that the region offers just the right
combination of cuisine, heritage and sunshine to attract the newly
affluent Indian and Chinese market.
Representatives from the Aude
Departmental Committee for Tourism and from the the
Languedoc-Roussillon Regional Committee for Tourism have already
welcomed a group of Chinese travel journalists from some of the top
ranking travel and lifestyle magazines in China. Their weekend long
stay was the perfect opportunity to introduce them to some of the
jewels of the Audois tourist sights, such as the medieval city in
Carcassonne, roman ruins in Narbonne, the Abbeys of Lagrasse and
Frontfroide, and some of the finest restaurants and accommodations in
the department. The Tourism committees are also due to meet with an
Indian TV production team who are shooting a 30 minute programme about
the region’s wine industry and who are due to visit, amongst others,
wine makers close to the Canal du Midi and the cellars of the Sieur
d’Arques Winery who produce one of the best selling marks of the
region’s sparkling wine, Blanquette.
