Dry February Fails to Make-Up Rain Deficit

Pyrenees-Orientales, the southern Aude, the Languedoc-Roussillon coast and the centre of the Lozere

A report in the Midi Libre on 11th March details how the continued lack of substantial rain in recent months is adding to an ever larger and worrying rainfall deficit in the region, and in the south-east of France as a whole. Statistics from the national weather database shows that average rainfall in February 2008 was, in some parts of the region, up to 50% below normal levels for the time of year. The areas of the region worst affected by lack of rain were the Pyrenees-Orientales, the southern Aude, the Languedoc-Roussillon coast and the centre of the Lozere. These areas saw an average rainfall during December, January and February of 75% lower than normal levels for those three months.
