Alain Corvez, the director of the Regional Hospital Agency (l'agence
régionale de l'hospitalisation or ARH), spent the 17th September
visiting the hospital facilities in the Bassin de Thau area south of
Montpellier, during which time he was able to set out recent planning
decisions.
Only the week previously announcements were made stating
that plans to merge two maternity wards in Sete had been abandoned. Mr.
Corvez said that the plan was no longer viable given the number of
births each ward was currently dealing with, and that it was still
economically sound to offer expected mothers both private and public
ward facilities. However, the merger had also been linked to
renovations of the respective buildings, and Mr. Corvez was quick to
reassure that the renovations were a “regional priority” and that
further projections for the renovations would be forthcoming.
